text messages to multiple phones

when I send a txt msg from my iphone to multiple phones, the reply back from one user is really a "reply/all". This must be the default. Is there a way to modify this so that the replier only sends his/her msg to the original texter?

Yes, go to Settings > Messages > Turn off Group Messaging.
