MacRumors reports today that one of its readers has emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs to ask him about the whole location tracking issue that blew up last week when it was revealed that the iPhone has been keeping a record of users' movements since the introduction of iOS 4. Here’s what the reader says is the email exchange between himself and Steve Jobs:

MacRumors reader: “Steve,
Could you please explain the necessity of the passive location-tracking tool embedded in my iPhone? It’s kind of unnerving knowing that my exact location is being recorded at all times. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me before I switch to a Droid. They don’t track me.”

Steve Jobs: “Oh yes they do. We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false.

Sent from my iPhone.”

As MacRumors notes, if this is indeed Jobs replying, the answer is typically vague and brief! Intriguing though.

did he not go on the news or send some one an email saying they stopped instead of never where?
