Currently I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4 and I have backed up everything I need onto my computer except for my text messages. I'm looking for a way to backup and save my messages so that when I do a clean install of iOS 5 I can transfer/import them back onto my phone. Is this possible? I have done some research but have'nt been able to find a solid solution
When you backup your iPhone to your computer your text messages ARE backed up. Its just a matter of finding them. Here are the paths to were you can find them in Windows and Mac OS X:
Mac OS X:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/
This is what the text message file will look like (
I believe): 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 This file will have a .mddata or .mdbackup extension
Windows: I've included the paths for each version of Windows
Windows XP: %APPDATA% = C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\
Windows Vista: %APPDATA% = C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming
Windows 7: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
I hope I answered your question correctly and you resolve you issue.
