What is the difference between these two?

I have used Skype on my laptop for years, why change to Facetime just for iOS devices, or am I missing something?

Will Skype work just as well on iPhone 5?

Yes just download the Skype app from the AppStore...FaceTime is for iOS devices only (iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches and MacBooks).

The advantage of Skype is that you can contact anybody with an Internet connection, who is also signed up for Skype.

In terms of connection and quality control, that depends on both ends of the connection
