Restoring before jailbreak

Im curious, I currently own a 4s and patiently waiting for the untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak. But I was wondering do I have to restore my phone clean before or can I jailbreak retaining all my apps and contacts?

You can jailbreak just as it is no need to restore or any of that

That is if you use redsnow to jailbreak, you do not need to restore the iOS, but if you use snowbreez like tools, it will load into your iPhone a brand new iOS.
