Restore from Backup greyed out in itunes

Title says it all. iphone 6, latest iOS, latest iTunes on my comp (W7, all updates, latest iTunes), changed Apple cable and USB port. Sync and Backup also greyed out. Comp is authorized. Am signed into my account. Did the double hold power/home button reboot thing. Trying to recover a 2month old iTunes backup.

This seems to be a problem with iTunes, the software. Remove iTunes and related software components completely, and then reinstall everything.

That worked, but inadvertently created a new problem. When I went into iTunes, it automatically synched which created a new backup. When I went to restore from backup, it only gave me the option of restoring from the new backup, not the 2 month old backup I wanted to use. Is there any way to get iTunes to allow me to use the older backup? It didn't give me any options.
