Hi all,
I have had a bit of a mare over the last couple of days with my iPhone 4S. About a week ago it started playing up so I tried to turn it off, it wouldn't. It also would not connect to my car (Audi Music Interface connector) or charge/connect to the computer. I tried doing all of the restoring and resetting etc to no avail. Eventually it ran out of battery then would not turn on.
I took it to apple who said there was water damage to the charging point (not sure how!). As it is out of warranty they wanted £140 to replace it (I am only 2 months from an upgrade so thought no point).
I took it to a local repair place that appears to have a number of shops nationally. They replaced the connector but also said that the battery had simultaneously failed. Given the symptoms shown by the phone before running out of battery I doubted this and had a lengthy discussion as to how both would fail at once and display the behaviour shown. Eventually I had had enough and as I had not way of proving which battery was which I just paid.
Since the repair the phone now works and charges but it still won't turn off and is not recognised by my car.
I am going back again today but would love to have some ammo! So 3 main questions are:
1. If there is water damage to the connector resulting in the phone not charging, will the battery expire too.
2. Why won't the phone turn off or connect to my car?
3. Are they connected (eg could the battery have leaked, corroding the connector and also resulting in other damage)?
Thank you so much for your help in advance. I am getting a bit frustrated as similar happened with my 3GS a few months before the end of my contract!
