MacRumors reports that T-Mobile USA has today begun taking customer pre-orders for the iPhone 5, which the carrier is due to launch on April 12. T-Mobile has also revealed its new payment plans for the iPhone 5, with the 16GB iPhone 5 costing $99.99 upfront, plus 24 monthly payments of $20. For the 32GB and 64GB models, the monthly payment would be the same, but the initial payments would be $199.99 and $299.99 respectively. If you are looking for what MacRumors calls a “single-line” service, then T-Mobile is offering those for $50 per month, with no contract, and unlimited talk, text and data, which will be throttled to 2G speeds after 500MB. This increases to a 2.5GB cap for $60, and unlimited high-speed data for $60. And in a possibly related story, Time reports that T-Mobile USA has just announced that it gained 3,000 new customers in the first quarter of this year, which Time says is, “the first report of a quarterly gain in years.” Time also quotes Macquarie Securities analyst Kevin Smithen as saying that customers could be sticking with T-Mobile because T-Mobile now has the iPhone.
