Phone not working after update.

I am trying hard to help my wife with her IPhone 4 but no clue what to do.
After doing an update a week ago many apps do not work at all, the phone will no longer ring with incoming calls, yet will issue alert tones when texts come in. I tried to restore the phone, but that doesn't work since it says the backup was not successful. Now I tried to call tech support but they are closed.

Any suggestions?

It will be much better to contact customer service providers and if you are not getting response from their end than better to go straight at the place from where you got an iphone.
