There seems to be very little doubt now that the next iPhone will be launched by Apple sometime this September, but there are still many conflicting rumours about just what type of iPhone it will be. MacRumors reports today on two stories from Digitimes about the next two iPhones. As far as the next iPhone is concerned, Digitimes says that production of what it refers to as the iPhone 4S will start in August, ahead of a likely launch date in September. Qualcomm will be supplying the 3G and CDMA chips, while the rear camera will get an upgrade to an 8-megapixel resolution model with image sensors supplied by OmniVision Technologies and lens kits supplied by Largan Precision. Digitimes adds that Apple has already reduced iPhone 4 orders from its suppliers in the second quarter of 2011 in readiness for the launch of the new phone.

Meanwhile, MacRumors also reports on Digitimes’ news from its sources that an LTE-enabled iPhone (which it also calls the iPhone 4S) will be launched by Apple sometime in 2012. LTE, which is often referred to as 4G, is the next step up from 3G. As MacRumors notes, both Verizon and AT&T have said that they will be supporting LTE in the near future.
