I Have had an IPad for about 18 months. Today I became the owner of an IPhone. Both have the 5 .1.1 version of the ios. Please could someone explain how I can acquire the apps , music, contact infos etc that are on my iPad and have them on my iPhone as well. I have ITunes .

Backup your iPad. Then set up your new phone from the backup rather than as a new device.
