Take a look at this really cute robot dog that MacRumors has reported on today, via Macotakara and TouchArcade. The dog’s face is actually an app being played on an iPhone that is attached to a robot body. The robot is programmed to use the iPhone’s front-facing camera to recognize and respond to gestures, and it has a range of over 100 different expressions, depending on the gesture. The app/robot will also support being able to upload your own pet photos, and there will also be Bluetooth-enabled interaction between multiple different robot animals. Apparently the smart pet is even able to sneeze on command! MacRumors says that the app will launch in Japan on March 31, and the robot body will go on sale after that. No information has been released about pricing as yet, or whether or not the app and robot pet body will be available outside of Japan.

Gives whole new meaning to the British rhyming slang, “dog and bone” (phone)!
