What's new

My Iphone 3GS won't hold a charge, leave the recovery screen and the screen is dim.

I left my phone out in the rain and it got wet, the water got inside the phone and you could visibly see water in the screen. Inside the phone the hardware was a little wet but not soaking. None of the water sensors have been tripped. I have to leave my iphone plugged in otherwise it won't turn on. When it is turned on I can barely see anything other than the recovery screen. On top of that, when I try to restore iOS 6.1.2 I get "unknown error code (1611)."

I posted this back back in the Apple support community, didn't get much help there (80 views on my post but no replies). Does anybody know how to fix this?

First, unplug the phone until it's dried out. Running power through a wet phone is jst asking for more trouble than you already have. Your battery connection may have been damaged by the water inside the phone.

Seconded. If you want to dry it out a little quicker, put it in a bed of rice, completely covering it and letting it sit there so that the rice absorbs all the moisture

It actually dried out awhile ago. I should just replace the battery right?

Replacing the batter isn't a bad idea. However, this may not resolve the issues you're having. Sometimes irreversible damage takes place when a piece of electronics gets wet... and there's simply nothing that can be done to fix it.
