I have just tried your advice several times. But the video is just flickering.. Any ideas of what I have done wrong?

You would have to ask the supporting vendors for advice. I don't have anything to do with their software. Sorry.

Try HANDBRAKE

I have allso tried handbrake. But it's the same with the flickering.
I must have done something wrong.

Download goodplayer and load the movie in its original format and play as is. Theres a few apps like goodplayer but thats what i use.

download Oplayer lite from app store n play any format apart from .VOB files...
