Microsoft today unveiled nine new Windows Phone 7 handsets that will be going onsale via leading mobile carriers in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific this holiday season. Microsoft says that it has more than 60 mobile operators in over 30 countries worldwide committed to bringing Windows Phones to market.

"We have a beautiful lineup in this first wave of Windows Phone 7 handsets," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft. "Microsoft and its partners are delivering a different kind of mobile phone and experience -- one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a 'glance and go' format."

Windows Phone 7 will be available in a variety of handsets from the likes of Dell, HTC, LG and Samsung, and from mobile operators such as Apple partner AT&T, Movistar, Orange, 02, Vodafone and T-Mobile USA.

According to Microsoft, all the new Windows Phone 7 handsets are distinguished by unique design and integrated experiences built from Microsoft’s portfolio, such as Xbox LIVE, Microsoft Office Mobile, Zune, Windows Live, Bing and more.

As far as games are concerned, EA has also announced today that it will be bringing Xbox-LIVE enabled titles to the platform, including Need for Speed Undercover, Tetris and The Sims 3. Nothing we haven't seen before so far though!

When it comes to music, Windows Phone 7 will be the first to offer Zune on a phone, with users being able to play their music collection synced wirelessly from their PC and stream and download new tunes from Windows Marketplace.
