Itunes syncing problem

Hi guys, first post so go easy

Im trying to sync my iphone 3gs which has the latest ios software with itunes 10.6.3 but itunes cannot see my phone, ive tried 2 different cables but that didnt work.
any help would be appreciated

Try updating iTunes to 10.7.
