My 2 iPhones -- one shows all apps highlighted in iTunes and the other shows the apps grayed out, with no way to access them, or do ANYTHING with them. What's that about? Both iPhones have the same Settings/General/Restrictions... settings and both iPhones are working exceptionally well. It's just iTunes that see them differently somehow.

BTW, this is a question not easily answered in several other forums.....

Any ideas, comments, on how to get 2 perfectly similar iPhones to look the same way in that abhorrent piece of software called iTunes? Note: our iOS is 4.1.

Thnx.....

Have you set both phones to authorised? I'm sure you have.
Have you tried having 2 log ins on your pc. So basically one log in for 1 iPhone and 1 log in for the other. I find this the simplistic way to operate. I'm taking you're not bothered which phone has what and you'd prefer both phones to have the same apps?
Because this is a long winded answer try those two first and let us know. *thinks because your connecting 2 iPhones to one iTunes log in it thinks it's the same phone hence why it's greyed out*

Thanks, iHolo.... I'm not sure what you mean by 2 logins on the PC. Each iPhone is recognized separately (by its own name) within iTunes, and both are "authorized." There are "some" different apps on each phone, if that matters.

In any case, this is not a serious problem for me since I avoid iTunes like the plague, except for making occasional backups. I'll do much of my iTunes/iPhone experimentation later this year just when my 2-year contract is up and I can get the 5, or whatever it's called. At that time, iTunes can annihilate whatever it wants on my two units! :-))

Thanks again!

No problems. What I mean by 2 log ins in your pc is when it starts up you can give the pc the option to log you in for different users and different desk tops. If you have two log ins and iTunes on both the desk tops you can set iTunes for each phone. This way iTunes as it is now wont get mixed up with each phone. To set log ins you need to do this.

If its windows 7 and vista here is the link and information.

I personally suggest this as each phone has its own setting. Once you've created a new user account and the desk top has loaded click iTunes and set one of the phones up. ( the one thats greyed our on the other account)
Now you can plug both phones in and log in and out of each account at the same time.

As usual, thanks again iHolo.... Much to digest there, but I get it in basic terms. I'm having a prob understanding why the two separate iPhones (which are recognized separately in iTunes when plugged in separately) need to be "logged in" on different "PC" accounts. I can understand your stated process, but I'm having a hard time understanding why Apple has made it so customer-unfriendly.

Once again, THNX!

No worries EWyatt.

Thing is with iTunes is they've not set it out to be easy for anyone, and most apple users try to stay away because of this. Looking at iTunes and windows media player, WMP wins hands down. You do not have to set accounts up, names or phones it just picks it up and it works. WMP also has the capability to drag and drop something iTunes doesn't do. But on the turn side, I do believe iTunes is far more advanced than WMP, it's just none of us know what or where this is (laughs out loud)
