im buying an iphone 3gs and some guy offered me this one but im not sure that it's 3gs

I don't think the compass is on the 3G so I would guess its a 3GS. Also I don't think the 3G was available in 16gb? Not sure on that one.

The way to tell for sure is if the native camera app has the option to switch between pictures and video. If it does then you've got yourself a 3GS...

3G models were available in 16Gb. It was the biggest one at the time, until the S launched with 16 & 32Gb. More recently, the S can be bought in 8Gb form.

Softwarewise I will say that it's a 3gs iPhone.

Look in the information page in settings, you will see the model number. Then just google for it to validate if it matches with the 3G or the 3GS
