Skype, yahoo, msn, you can use anyone of them to text chat or to call, your correspondent need to be using the same app as you and need to be online. You will need to have wifi connected to your device. Also, if your correspondents have apple devices, you can face time with then. Notice that not all apple products can face time eg.. iPhone 3G or 2G
