iPod 4th Gen

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen that is basically unusable due to the fact that it is running ios 6.1.6. I just want to use iMessage and FaceTime on it but because the software if from before two-factor verification it's impossible for me to log in (though I see online it works fine for others). Can anyone help me? Thank you!

When trying to log in you’ll see a verification code sent to your other devices. Sign in again and add the verification code to the end of your password with no space between them. I’ve used this method on older devices and it may work in your case.

I get texted multiple codes from different numbers at once and none work.
