I know for certain there's a way to backup just your text messages... I just can't reacall how. Please be patient and hopefully soneone will chime in with the correct answer.

It is very simple to do.

Use an SSH tool like i-FunBox and drag the sms.db to your computer.

The sms.db file is located as follows:

/private/var/mobile/Library/SMS

Simply go to that directory after restore and jailbreak, delete the existing sms.db and drag the backed up sms.db from pc to tales its place.
