iPhone 4 Update Woe!

Since trying to install the latest update 4.0.2 to my iPhone 4 my iPhone has become unusable! It informs me that a Restore is needed but gets as far as updating Firmware then gives me error message 9 and sends me back to Restore again.

I have tried all of the fixes in the Apple Support website including restarts, different cables etc. but my iPhone is stuck waiting for a Restore which it will not let me complete.

Can you help please? I need my 'phone urgently but all I have is a very expensive chunk of metal and glass!
