when i'm playing music on my iphone 4 through the main speaker, it will suddenly cut off and go silent. if i try to turn up the volume using the buttons, nothing happens (no slide bar appears on the screen). if i select the little screen icon to see what speaker is selected, it says "dock connector" even though the phone isn't connected to the dock. there is no choice for "iphone". when the sound is playing, if i select the screen icon, the 'iphone' choice is there and selected - it just disappears when the sound goes off.
this happens intermittently and frequently. it also keeps my alarm from going off in the morning.
