The New York Times reports today that according to analytics firm, Flurry, the daily audience for iOS apps on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has soared past the staggering figure of 19 million users who spend around 22 minutes per day interacting with the apps. What this means in real terms, according to the Times, is that the iOS audience is now bigger than that for NBC’s Sunday Night Football, and is almost catching up with ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Fox’s American Idol.

Flurry told the Times that these figures are only a conservative estimate, with the actual figures being even bigger, as its analytics code is only integrated into 50,000 of the 250, 000 available iOS apps. In fact, Flurry estimates that the iOS is actually already bigger than all TV shows, when the entire iOS audience is taken into consideration.

The New York Times even goes so far as to say that an app such as Angry Birds, which has sold over 7 million copies, is actually like a TV show, with regular updates coming out like new TV episodes.
