I plugged my Verizon iPhone 4, using the Apple USB cable, into my car's USB input and although the little battery icon on the top right of my iPhone has a thunderbolt indicating that the phone is charging, there was an error message on my phone saying that it was connected to an incompatible device.

My question is, will this harm my iPhone in any way? I'm plugging the phone in for two reasons. 1. Listen to mp3's on my iPhone through the car's stereo. 2. Charge the phone.

It will not harm your device but its apple's way of making you by their proprietary crap for the iphone. You may be able to find an adapter if you google it that will add the resistor values needed for it to work properly.

Won't mess up your car. However, one thing that bugs the heck out of me about apple is that they have to be so exclusive and make nothing compatible to anything non apple.

Thanks for your feedback, guys/gals.
