If youÂ’ve taken a look at the App Store top games charts lately youÂ’ll have noticed that GameloftÂ’s Ice Age Village has taken up permanent residence at the top of the charts since its release on April 5. ItÂ’s no surprise then, that according to GameloftÂ’s announcement today, the game has already reached the milestone of more than 5 million downloads, making it one of the most explosive debuts in app history. Indeed, the game has been number 1 in the Top Free Games category in over 50 countries for the iPhone version and over 90 countries for the iPad version. The result of an exclusive agreement between Gameloft and Fox Digital Entertainment, Ice Age Village offers an immersive and entertaining experience set in the Ice Age universe. Players interact with film characters such as Sid, Manny, Diego, and Scrat, through various quests and mini-games.

“We are very proud to offer a gaming experience that appeals to Gameloft and Ice Age fans alike,” said Karine Kaiser, Gameloft Vice-President of Marketing and Licensing. “We have collaborated closely with Fox Digital Entertainment to provide a Free-to-Play game with broad fan appeal, thanks to its simplicity and free access. Its success represents a new, strong brand addition to our game catalogue.”

“We are pleased with the extremely positive reception this newest addition to the Ice Age franchise has enjoyed across the world,” said Rick Philips, Senior Vice-President of the Mobile Division of Fox Digital Entertainment. “Ice Age fans are eager to meet their heroes on tablets and smartphones. New missions, which will be released over the next three months, will help prepare fans for the return of Sid, Manny, Diego and Scrat in Ice Age: Continental Drift, which is coming to theaters this summer.”

It amazes me people play these games. It's like the Mafia wars-type games, there is like a thousand of them out there, doing the exact same thing, just with different words.

I downloaded it and played for a an hour or two ... then deleted it for the reason posted above by Yakuzagang5, lol

So whilst the 5 million is a very good number, its not as relevant as how many are still playing after a week or two and have been suckered into spending ÂŁ / $ from the in game purchases.
