Hi there,

Total Iphone noob, so please do not shoot me down in flames, have come over from HTC, and very happy so far,

But, have a few icons that came with the phone, and do not seem to be able to dump them, Thinking here especially of the calender program, have updated to a newer, better one for me, but cannot get rid of the older one, the one that came with the phone, also the kiosk, or paper support icon, where you can buy papers from, cannot seem to get rid of that at all.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi mcpolle,
Sorry, but AFAIK any of the app icons that came with the iPhone like Calender etal are not able to be deleted. I'm not a JBer so not sure if there are any tweaks that will let you either. Someone else may chime in with better info on that. Not sure what the kiosk/paper support icon you're referring to is, unless it's the Newstand one, which is also native to the device.

If you jailbreak your device.....you can hide any stock icons you do not want. I always hide "NewsStand" and "Stocks" because I never use them. I keep the Cslander icon cuz I like having an icon that has the date right on it.lol.

Put them all in a folder labeled "useless" and forget about them! You could even put them on a page/screen all by themselves and never see them again, LOL!
+1 , I put them in a folder called junk and then move them to a new page ne Eric to be seen again.

Agree...It is not possible to get rid out of them. You can always move them over to another. Create a new folder and dump them in it and then hide them.

It is possible. Even without a jailbreak. iBackup Bot will do. Just delete the files, /Applications, and then do a search of the file system to make sure everything related to said app is deleted.

Can't do that with some of them. Newsstand for example cannot be put into another folder. I tried.

You can get rid of news stand if jailbroken via cydia. There is an app to do this.

Technically a "tweak" not an app. ;)

Sure it can! You just have to have patience and keep attempting the "trick" until it works.

The trick is: Have three icons in a row - Newstand, then two others. Put the one furthest on the right over the top of the one in the middle until you see a folder begin to form. Then, quickly "grab" the Newstand icon and put it into the folder.

This does take timing and often, repeated attempts. But, it does work, as you can see from my attached picture:

P.S. And, TBH, I would not advocate going into the iPhone's "innards" and deleting files. IMHO, Apple has got the stock apps so tightly interwoven, you will probably cause more trouble than it's worth. But, that's just me - YMMV.

Nah. Causes no problems at all.

The tweak is called "NoNewsIsGoodNews"

Springtomize 2 also has this feature. In case one has Springtomize n doesn't want Newsstand

You say, "Just delete the files, /Applications" How? I have been every where I can think of to get help, to no avail.
