I have my phone connected now, but must be missing something probably fairly simple. Does this have to be done through I tunes?

When you open up your photos on your phone, there is an album called "camera roll". That will have all the pics you have taken with your phone. You can delete them from there.

Touch the Photos app, then the "action" button, top right of the screen. Then touch each photograph that you want to delete. A red tick appears on the photograph. When you have selected all those you want to delete, touch the red "delete" button bottom right, and confirm by touching "Delete Photo" in the box that appears at the bottom of he screen.

Just a word of warning. When you delete photographs, they are gone for good. There is no recycle bin, and no reliable way of retrieving them, so make sure you really want them gone, or have saved them in another place.

I think I am missing something. When I do this in Camera Roll it works great. However, I have albums on the iPhone too and for pics in albums it doesn't show any option for deleting. I don't know how to delete album pics at all. Any thoughts?

You can do it either through iTunes....you would unsync the photos, thereby taking them off your phone. Or you can go into the phone's folder when you hook it up to your computer as it's own drive. You can move photos from folders there.

Same as KevinJS said but dont tap the pic itself until you have tapped the "action" button or the option disappears

I have this exact problem and what you all are suggesting doesn't work. I wish it did. I have the "Camera Roll" album which are the pics I've taken with my phone. Then, one time when I synced my phone it put ALL the photos from my laptop, photos I'd taken for years with my kodak, onto my iPhone. It sorted them in albums and now I have several albums and a TON of photos. They have taken up almost all the usage space on my phone. Well, I can't find any way possible to delete them. Not by album or individually. The delete option just isn't there. I also connected the phone to my computer and went into "my computer" and pulled up the photos and wouldn't you know, it would only pull up the photos in the "Camera Roll" album and none of the other albums or photos showed. I just cannot figure out how to get these photos off my phone. I saw someone say to UNsync my photos. I don't see that as an option in iTunes. When I go to my photos on iTunes it only shows the option to sync. PLEASE someone help! There has got to be a way to delete these photos. I don't understand why that isn't an option on the phone. When I open them it only gives the option "share", "copy", or "add to" another album. If you click the Add To option, it asks you to create an album name and basically creates another album where you can't delete them from. AUGH!!!!

Use iTunes and UNCHECK all the photos you do not want on your album. When you sync it will take them off your phone.

OH MY GOSH!!!!! IT WORKED!!!! It didn't let me view the actual photos. But, I clicked on the photo tab at the top of itunes when my phone was connected. Then I clicked the "sync" tab and then clicked the that I only wanted it to sync certain folders, but then left the folders unchecked. Then synced. Now all albums on my phone are gone except the camera roll album. Strangely it only showed 2 of the albums that I left unchecked, but it got rid of all of them, which is what I wanted. NOW, another strange thing, it still shows that most of my usage space is taken up by photos. I do have a little over 2,000 photos in my camera roll album and I can go through there and delete probably a bunch of them then re-sync. But, I would have thought that getting rid of all those other albums and re-syncing would have made the amount of photo storage decrease a lot.

Still working on it, but making progress! THANK YOU!!

2000 photos will take up quite a bit of space. And how many of those might possibly be video? You could copy most of your photos to you pc and then delete them off your phone. Glad you are getting somewhere with your issue though! :)
