Hi ... need help with a "feature"

I'm a new member, retired journalist in Texas, need some help.

I did something, don't know what, about a week ago. The result is a little circle with a lock inside near the battery indicator. I now can open items inside an email but can't scroll them up to read them. Also, when I turn the phone sideways, the copy doesn't follow anymore.

What did I do? How can I undo it? It's obviously a design feature since the icon appeared on the screen. Help!!

sound like screen orientation is locked,double tap the home button and scroll all the way to the right,you should see the lock there,tap on the icon.
