Hi, we have an Austrian student staying with us for a year and she has a 5S that appears to be locked to T-Mobile Austria where her Mum has a contract on her behalf.

Thinking that an EE SIM would work straightaway in her phone we bought a PAYG. The phone refused to recognise it and said 'invalid sim'.......

Been to EE and they can't help. They suggested a backstreet unlocker but they couldn't unlock the phone. Tried "officialiphoneunlock.co.uk' who charged me £19.99 to pre-order an unlock and then proceeded to ask for another £129.99!!!!!

Is there anyone out there that can help me unlock the phone, please? Without being hideously expensive!!!!

Cheers

Welcome to iPhoneForums, Nige!

The only service that will unlock her iPhone, is the carrier to which it's locked. If it's T-Mobile Austria, there are a few options:

If she purchased it after Sept. 1, 2014, they will unlock it for free.
For devices purchased before that date:
If she got it less than 24 months ago, she'll have to pay 150 €.
If the iPhone is older than 24 months, the amount is 50 €.

For more information, see this site:
Entsperrung des iPhone
It's in German (sorry), when you show it to her, she'll know what to do. Perhaps her mother in Austria can do it for her.

Hope that helps.
