Hi how to get started

Hi all my daughter has just got a iphone 4

the problem is i think it is locked to vodaphone (so we was told but wants to unlock it to keep number) cant get past the first step after turning on phone as we dont have a voda sim (yes i can guess the answer lol)

Have been looking on forum ie tehered untethered basebands etc

Questions

1,Do i need to get a voda sim before anything else

2, If not is redsnow the way to sim unlock

3, If not HELP or some expert advise from what seems a very good forum

I would pay voda to unlock it as well if I had a locked device, although unlocking software is free its not very reliable and requires you to be on baseband 01.59 for the iphone 4 or pay for a hardware unlock solution that apple quickly patches up and you end up having problems, at least this way you pay vodafone the one time and you never have to worry about it again. No worrying about the baseband version or preserving it or having to learn how the tools work (unless you want to jailbreak)

But if there is no way to go through vodafone and you have to rely on unlock tools then I will help you unlock via software if you are able to do so.

Download the f0recast app from here iH8sn0w.com for either mac or windows and it will tell you your baseband version and if you are able to unlock with either a software or hardware unlock solution.

Ok thanks think I will just get Vodafone to unlock it as you say no need to worry about it later

I'm going to uninstall the JB until a untethered version comes out so no need to keep a pc nearby.
