Green vs blue vs gray I message.

Texting my friend the other night his bubbles are normally blue like mine. However, this time his came back gray bubble. All ten of them came back gray. Any idea why?

All incoming Messages come in a grey bubble.

When his connection is such that iMessage converts hiis text to an SMS message, it changes the bubble color, I believe to green. That is to advise him that it is being sent as a text not an IMessage. Some people still get charged by number of texts sent and received so this info is needed. On your iPhone all messages received would be grey regardless of whether they were iMessage or SMS text.
