The Google Mobile Blog announced today that Google has updated its Google Latitude and Google Places iPhone apps. First up we have Google Latitude, which has been updated with check-ins. Google Latitude enables you to see where your Latitude friends are, and to share with them continuously where you are. Check-ins are another way of letting your friends and family know when you’re at a specific place, such as a restaurant. If you have set Latitude to continuously update your location, you’ll automatically check out when you leave. The more you check-in to a particular location, your special status will increase, from Regular, to VIP and then Guru. If you happen to be in Austin, Texas, gaining status will enable you to unlock check-in offers at more than 60 places.

Next, Google Places, which now enables you to rate places such as hotels, bars, and restaurants on the go and get personalised recommendations in 30 languages. You can also now view places that you’ve previously saved in Google Hotpot or Maps from within the app.
