I'm trying to do a full restore on my iPhone 4 from recovery mode. It is currently hanging on the progress bar at about 10% on iTunes and the iPhone. Been like this for over an hour. iTunes is still responsive.

Trying to upgrade from 4.0.1 to 5.0. Wanted a fresh phone so did it via a restore as apposed to an update.

Hope someone can help!

My phone was trashed trying to update to 5.0 One mistake I made was I have this Mophie case which has a battery in the bottom to give you extra power should your battery run out. You charge "it" and the Iphone through a mini usb connector on the Mophie case. It had been working with no problem with Itunes and whatever. When that upgrade stalled I took the battery case off and used the regular Iphone USB cable and the restore went better. I re-booted the computer and finally had to resort to, (as foolish as it sounds) have the phone off, Itunes running, hold the home key down then plug the USB cable into the computer. After that it went through the whole rebuilding process. Took at least an hour.

So it was in recovery mode? I've not got any accessories so that can't be the issue for me :/

Yes it was in recovery mode when it all went south. I started from scratch. I shut off the Iphone by holding the home key down while pressing the on/off button on the top. I rebooted the computer, started Itunes 10.5, held down the home key on the Iphone while the Iphone was off and plugged in the USB cable to the computer at the same time your holding down the home key, then release. The Iphone powered itself up then I did the restore. Thats the proceedure I did to get the Iphone back up and running with the new IOS5.

Just tried what you said and it's still not working :( Getting really annoyed with it now! Even tried DFU mode!

Only other thing is if you have AT&T for a carrier this page might help: www.att.com/iosupdate
I had to call tech support, but after talking to the initial lady who didn't know much, they then connect me to their "data" specialist who was very helpful and stayed with me the entire time it took to get my Iphone running.
