Sometimes my iPhone 5 sounds line you are talking on tin cans with a string between them then it goes away as fast as it arrived have reset and done most of the standard stuff.

Well you didn't tell us who your carrier is, how many bars you are showing, does it happen more often to one person and if so are they on another service.

All cell phones IMHO have issues from time to time with the network. How you hold the phone even can effect the sound.

I have AT&T and have good coverage have had several iPhone first one to do this and it happens on different calls to different people on different carriers.
