Just curious about this as I am still somewhat new to iPhone. I am running 4.2.8 jailbroken and alls well. In the past, on BB, I have had disruptions when the carrier would push a new OS on me and I will like to avoid that.

As far as i know, only apple will do this during the new ios5. Verizon doesn't push

Verizon and Apple have agreements in place that allow Verizon to request that certain features not be enabled in any iOS version released to their CDMA iPhones. iOS 4.x and early have no ability what-so-ever to over the air update. iOS 5 has publicly been slated for OTA updates.

Thanks. And is (or when) this happens, do you think will we have the ability to say no thanks to the update?

VZW has never required, to my knowledge, a user to update their smart phone to the latest software to continue using the phone on their network.

Since iTunes has to be used to install iOS 5, you can simply tell iTunes not to download the update as well as never ask you about it again.

So it is not a true OTA update then? What I mean is, BB used to go from the carrier to the device and you would get a pop-up that a new OS was available. This won't happen with iOS? You will have to plug in to iTunes?

No. Ios5 will offer the OTA. I don't think veriZOn will have much control over that. As far as the whole 5 version I'm unclear of how that will work. I hope they don't screw us over like they have been doing

While you are on iOS 4, yes. But if you decide to install iOS 5, from that point on it will inform you.

It wasn't Apples choice. VZW forced CDMA to stay on 4.2.x. But Apple is correcting that with iOS 5. In fact, and this is my opinion without using anything I have seen in the beta, I believe Apple decided to add OTA because VZW was screwing up their business plans too much.

That sounds right. I hate Verizon for that

Then I wonder what I will do once 5 comes out.. I love the jb so much that I may not install.

A lot of the issues I had with stock OS will be fixes with iOS 5 so I might stay stock. Might! Lol.

iPhone 4 16Gb 4.2.8 (jbme 3.0)

iOS 5 is not immune to being jailbroken. In fact, iOS Beta 5 was jailbroken in less than 72 hours. I believe they actually did it faster, but they wanted to find more than one jailbreak point before Beta 6 comes out.
