9to5 Mac reports today that an app called Display Recorder that (as it says on the tin!) lets you record your iOS device’s display has been allowed in the App Store, despite the fact that a previous app with exactly the same name, but created by someone else not at all associated with the new app, was not allowed in the App Store, and has previously only been available as a Cydia app for jailbroken iPhones. This new app, from Bugun Software, lets you send your recordings to YouTube or to your Camera Roll, tweak video and audio settings, and can record and merge audio from the iPhone’s built-in microphone. 9to5 Mac says that it seems that the new app takes a series of screenshots to record the video, despite the fact that Apple usually does not permit third-party apps that take screen captures or screenshots, other than browser apps. 9to5 Mac adds that Apple may yet pull this app from the App Store, especially as the creator of the original Display Recorder app, Ryan Petrich, has complained to Apple about it.
