Cydia not working

Ok, I tried to jailbreak my 4s. It did not work, so I converted over to my sisters old GSM iPhone 4. The jailbreak worked but cydia is not opening. The iOS on both phones is 5.0.1 if that's helpful.

There is no jailbreak for the 4s yet. As for the 4. You have to use redsnow and tether reboot after you jailbreak it for the first time

ok, i did the tethered reboot like you said except it said unrecognized build.

You need to point it at an iOS5.0 firmware, redsn0w does not natively support 5.0.1

No, there is no way to downgrade. You just need to point redsn0w at an iOS5 firmware file.

Launch Redsn0w and go to Preferences > Select Firmware
Select the 5.0
Then boot tethered

Did this: got cydia to work. Now the app is not working again, nor is the radio app I put on it or safari.

You understand that you have a TETHERED jailbreak and you MUST use redns0w to boot the device EVERY TIME you restart it, right?

When Cydia and Safari stop working it is a sign you need to perform the boot using redsn0w!

I followed the same steps, only when I clicked on preferences there was nothing labled "Select firmware". Now what? By the way g4780y, I just cracked open a bottle of Bowmore Islay single-malt, like liquid, smoky bacon that will get you drunk. Hoorahhh!!!!

Ok, I have a 3Gs, so maybe this might go differently. I followed the above instructions and got nowhere. Under "extras" I'm asked for some kind of prompt that I have to fill in and no idea what to enter there.
Under "select IPSW" a window appears that opens up the documents section on my computer and I have no idea what to choose from what's listed there. I'm using redsn0w ver 9.9 by the way. Help! Anyone???

When you choose Extras > Select IPSW, you must point redsn0w towards the firmware file to use for the jailbreak. In this case you must point it towards the 5.0 firmware you have downloaded from this thread here - http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/i...ple-ios-firmware-download-links-iphone-17213/ since redsn0w does not currently recognise the 5.0.1 firmware.

So, download 5.0, and select it using redsn0w. Then you will be able to jailbreak and perform the tethered boot for a 5.0.1 jailbreak. I think this is fairly well covered in the jailbreak tutorial here - http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/h...-ios5-tethered-using-redsn0w-beginners-25943/

Maybe mixing Single Malt with Jailbreaking is not such a good idea
