Copied texts on other iPhones

Hi, I've come across a strange bug and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it.

When ever I text one of my mates via iPhone messaging his wife who also has an iphone also gets a copy and can
respond back to both of us? This doesn't happen to anyone else I text!

Your mate must have sent you a group text in the past, and you replied to the group message. In otherwords, you might have his # and his wifes saved as one number. Do you follow??

Cheers for the reply. I'm a bit of a novice at this - how can I check if I have their numbers grouped and if so ungroup them?
