Consumer Reports Refuses to Recommend Verizon iPhone Because of Antenna Issues

Consumer Reports, the ratings and reviewing magazine, has once again refused to endorse an iPhone to its reader’s because of an antenna problem, according to MacRumors. Last year, the magazine refused to endorse the AT&T iPhone 4 due to the well-publicised “death grip” antenna issues, now it is once more taking the iPhone 4 to task, but this time it’s the Verizon iPhone 4 that it’s refusing to recommend. To quote:

“The Verizon iPhone 4 has a problem that could cause the phone to drop calls, or be unable to place calls, in weak signal conditions, Consumer Reports have found in lab tests.”

Consumer Reports' findings bear up other recent reports of antenna problems with the new Verizon iPhone 4. The magazine says that the problem is very similar to the AT&T antenna problem and that reception problems arise when the phone is held in a “specific but quite natural way in which a gap in the phone’s external casing is covered”.

It’s not all bad news for Verizon, however, as Consumer Reports also says that in most other areas, the iPhone 4 performs “superbly”, and that using a case will solve the problem.
