I just purchased iPhone 17 from a 12 series. I'm dissatisfied with the position of the camera switch on the side from which I'm used to picking up the phone. Until I relearn how to pick up the phone without mistakenly touching the camera button. A poor design feature probably meant for millennial's selfies. Otherwise it's a very nice phone.

You can turn this function off altogether in settings.

Discovered you can use voice control to activate your camera shutter: Settings/Accessibility/Voice Control/Voice Control Tutorial. Using voice control frees both your hands to grip your phone in as secure a manner as you can devise and eliminates the possibility of introduced movement by manual activation.

The downside is that there is about a 2-second lag and your grip or tripod mount cannot obstruct the microphones at the bottom of your phone. Otherwise, it’s good for most situations and it’s free! …

The Voice Control Tutorial will familiarize you with the app.

You’ll need to create a new command: Accessibility/Voice Control; Commands;Custom/Create New Command/New Command.

On the New Command page: Phrase, type in the desired phrase (Smile, e.g.); Action/Run Custom Gesture/New Gesture. (Here you need to duplicate the action of pressing the camera shutter, so make a mental note of the shutter button location.) Save, then back on the New Command page, choose Camera for Application. Go back to the New Command page and Save.

It’s simpler than it sounds …
