I would advise against a "hard case." Because they are designed to hug the devise so tightly, they put quite a bit of pressure on the back glass to the point of bowing it a little. Needless to say, when the glass is under that much stress constantly, it doesn't take much of a bump from the right angle to shatter it. Yes. This is speaking from experience.
Not seen those that exert force the back tbh.
The gear4 crystal case is in 2 halves that simply clip together.
the Griffin Survivor is much the same but with a neoprene rubber covering.
Neither offers any untoward stress to the iphone within.
