Apple launched the iPhone 5c only two weeks ago, but we already see important retailers trying to discount the colorful smartphone. This time, Best Buy tries to attract buyers by slashing down iPhone 5c’s retail price of $99 to $49 by offering a $50 store gift card.

As first reported by ABC News, the big box electronics retailer’s decision to drop the price for the iPhone 5c was taken in order to drive more traffic to Apple’s smartphone. As we’ve seen from previous reports, it would seem that the iPhone 5s has had much more sales so with this move, Best Buy tries to attract more eyeballs to Apple’s polycarbonate smartphone.

But that might not be the single reason why Best Buy is slashing the price of the 5c. Its competitors, Walmart and Target have also discounted the iPhone 5c, both retailers selling it for $80, which is twenty dollars less than Apple's set price of $100.

Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD, told ABC News:

I think the 5c has gotten overshadowed and, given that the 5s isn't available everywhere, this is a way to get people excited about the latest and greatest Apple product.
Best Buy is also including the Samsung Galaxy S4 in this deal, but even after you apply the $50 gift card, you’ll still have to pay $149 to get it. What do you think of Best Buy’s slashing of iPhone 5c’s pricing, does it seem like a good deal to you?

Believe this is the first time this has ever happened to an iPhone at launch. My interpretation is simple. The 5C isn't selling at the rate Best Buy expected and they want to make sure they don't have a huge inventory of 5C in the next 30 days.
