Automatic switch on re. alarm clock

Hello, I'm new here but I'm glad I've found you.

I'm just wondering if you can set the alarm clock then turn off the iPhone during the night & it will automatically turn on for the alarm to go off?

Only in normal sleep mode, not if it's completely off.

Ah ok, but wouldn't I need to keep the sound/volume on to hear the alarm in which case any late night incoming texts or emails would beep etc?

Turning the mute switch to off turns off all ringers etc but still allows only the alarm ringer to go off at specified time. Hope this helps.

Great, thanks for your help.

I still think it's a big oversight on Apple's behalf though, not to have automatic switch on with the alarm clock.
