MacRumors writes today about a report from Nikkei that says that Apple will be using OLED displays in all three new iPhones in 2018. If accurate, this would mean that Apple is already ahead of its expected schedule, as previous reports from Apple’s supply chain said that Apple would not being going all-OLED until 2019.

Nikkei’s sources say that Apple shifting to all-OLED could cause OLED display shortages, as Samsung is currently the only company that can reliably manufacture the component in large quantities. And while Apple is said to be investing in LG Display’s massive new OLED plant, that is not expected to be operational until late 2019.

However, a Sharp executive told Nikkei that it was “not likely” that Apple would be going all-OLED as soon as 2018, but that could just be wishful thinking on Sharp’s part, as along with JDI, Sharp is one of the main suppliers of LCD screens for Apple, including this year’s iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
