Apple store replaced expanding battery

My iphone 5 started with a crack around the glass and the body which i gave little notice becuz everything still worked. But then one day the separation became so large i could see the internals. Ended up taking it to the apple store and they just gave me a new phone no questions asked and i didn't have apple care. Had the phone for 2 years

Your iPhone may have been one of the relatively few early production iPhone 5's with a defective battery. Apple has a program for free battery replacement, or in your case because of the damage to the phone, a complete replacement of the phone, that is in effect even after the regular warranty expires.
