Apple's App Store has had its own dedicated Twitter account @AppStore since 2009. However, nearly six years have passed, meaning that the App Store has gained some mass as well as gone through a load of changes.

Most can argue that some mobile games are becoming on par, or even better, than some on consoles. We believe Apple knows this, so that's why today marks the day where Apple opened a dedicated Twitter account, @AppStoreGames, to promote gaming on the App Store.

The move to segregate gaming from the original App Store account is likely due to the forthcoming announcement of the Apple TV refresh. Rumors have been flying around that the new Apple TV will likely have enhanced hardware and downloadable games.

While I believe at first Apple will look towards third parties to create gaming controllers for the Apple TV. Some blogs have reported that Apple TV's new remote will feature a touchpad for games. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Apple ever does release a gaming controller of its own.
