For folks who aren't complete audiophiles, Apple's EarPods work just fine for daily use. After Apple stepped away from its old iPod headphones loads of people had problems keeping in their ears, EarPods were a fantastic upgrade, quality and design-wise.

So it's no surprise that Apple kept a similar design when the company announced AirPods on Wednesday. AirPods are Apple's answer to some issues found in wireless headphones. Unlike other headsets, Apple's wireless AirPods don't use Bluetooth, instead the company design its own W1 chip, which is found inside.

Also unlike other wireless headphones, the AirPods don't have any sort of wire to tether them together, possibly making them easier to lose. Infrared sensors found on both ear dongles detect whether or not both headphones are in your ears, so that music begins playing when you're ready.

AirPods have built-in motion and accelerometer sensors for detecting position and responding to touch. Users may double-tap an AirPod to activate Siri while being used. At the bottom, a directional microphone is found for phone calls, which blocks out unwanted sound.

In total, the AirPods should have around a five hour battery life. Good news is, each set comes with its own case, which contains a battery for 24 more hours of run time.

Apple's AirPods will be available later in October for $159.
