8-30 pin converter?

I see that the official iPhone charger converter sells for 30 bucks but I was wondering if anybody else has used the off brand ones that go for 10 bucks to see if it works just as well.

I have used an AC charger that has 2 USP ports and it works fine. I also have used 3 different 12v chargers and they all worked fine on my iPhone 5.
