What's new

***OFFICIAL*** Received your new iphone 5? tell us about it here!

Skull - exactly what "activity" will cause the phone to heat up? I've never felt heat on my five yet, but I don't play games on it (yet). Then again - I do have a case - so perhaps the heat is not being transmitted through the case and as such I'm not noticing it? And is this harmful to the phone?

Are you talking about something that taxes the processor? You mention the screen on full brightness - I usually have mine on full just to make it easier for these "tired old" eyes to see mine better... ;)

Gives new meaning to those who feel the new iPhones are "HOT!" ! :)

Black things usually get hot quicker than white things.

That is only true for radiant energy absorption. If both phones are in an office with neon overhead lights and an ambient temp of 76F, they will heat at exactly the same rate and dissipate that heat at exactly the same rate.

If you are just "reading" (web, flipboard, email, weather app, facebook, twitter, blah, blah....) on the iPhone at full brightness I doubt, even with the case off, you wil feel any real heat unless the ambient temp of the air is above 90F. Above 90F it might allow the battery to become heat soaked (saturated) and then you could feel that without a case.

Now 3D games or 2D games with lots of moving pixels, that will heat things up. And you can even feel it thru a case if you do it long enough. But as long as the battery and motherboards core temp doesn't get above 120F to 130F, you should be fine. Back when I was deep into Android, we found that the CPUs were rated fro 170F+ but the mother boards were only rated to 154F. Kind of funny actually. And since the iPhone does have an "over temp" warning and shutdown protocol, I would say you are going to be safe unless you decided to leave the phone in a car with the windows rolled up and in direct sunlight. Then you can kiss you phone goodbye in about 6 hours, possibly sooner.

Are you sure you got an IPhone 5 in your hands ? Battery is fine ,to me this is one of the most impressed issues about this new 5 ,guys what are you doing to your phones ? so many complaints and i don't have those problems, weigh is great ,battery is great ,by the way my Siri works fantastic even i have my accent in english ;remember one of the most important things ,close your applications if you don't use them ,helps a LOT ,also i got the Jay Bird earphone (wireless) and the bluetooth sinc with this phone is AWESOME ,i believe any device works in the same way you handle them ,i'm stick to IPhone since the beginning and never have any issue with the device,to me the Iphone is a girl ,and you know what i mean...enjoy your day

Skull - thanks for that "heat" explanation!

I would never, ever leave my phone in a car with the windows closed on a hot, sunny day. No more than I would with my dog or a child! :)

I had thought of drilling a bunch of holes in the back of my case - thinking this might help alleviate any overheating problems (I had done this on my Droid case which did get hot quite often), but since to date I've not felt any excessive heat I'll hold off. By the way - With the machinery I have in my custom cabinet shop - this "drilling" would be done in a very professional manner using an inverted pin router (a 2,000 lb. machine designed specifically to rout/drill holes in a perfect mechanical pattern predetermined utilizing a custom designed template). I mention this only as I can hear the "gasps" as readers here envision me just taking a cordless drill and punching my way through the case in a random, slap-hazard manner... ;)

vg5157 - I'm in total agreement with you! I've had zero disappointments with my iPhone5 since opening day, I appreciate it's thin, lightweight design (especially coming from the OG Droid with it's very heavy and bulky, two pieced design and slideout keyboard), very acceptable battery life (for my needs) and, as already stated above - Siri just blows me away! So no, all are not just complaints here.. ;)

I never got to use the ear buds that came with the phone - I gave those to my daughter (who has a 4s) since she showed a "desire" for them and anything my baby wants my baby gets... :) But I did acquire the Zagg ear buds (discounted from $29.99 to only $10.00 when purchasing their HD Screen protector. I can't compare them to the Apple since I never used them - but I can say that I do love the Zaggs! Especially given the two "slide" grips that enable you to to keep the wiring "custom" routed to your head, neck and chest. They have an awesome, full bodied sound with great base and treble tones. With separate on/off and volume slider switches - they answer my needs for ear buds perfectly! I heartily recommend them to any who might profess an interest in the Zagg products. :)

Undertaken: Nice video - though I opened my own box when I purchased my iPhone5 - I still enjoyed this thoroughly informative video! For sure it was a very professional presentation! Had I not bought already - viewing this video would have been the clincher were I "on the fence" about buying the new five!

Thanks for contributing the link! :)
